Tales from the salmon netting on the River Spey in the north east of Scotland

Willie MacphersonThe tunes that begin and end most of the Summer Crew podcasts are called Strathmashie and A.F. Macpherson respectively; both are performed by Willie Macpherson – one of the most talented musicians north-east Scotland has produced.

Willie was a celebrated folk player in the north east as well as a member of the first violins in the Scottish National Orchestra. In fact Willie’s playing was so respected in both classical and folk circles, that when Yehudi Menuhin wanted to learn more about Scottish fiddle playing technique, it was to Willie he turned.

Willie died in 1972, but you can learn more about his life and listen to his music if you buy the book and CD linked below (which not entirely coincidentally was written by my father).
